Cambridge Cardiovascular

We began in 2013, when the University of Cambridge approved a new cross-School activity called Cambridge Cardiovascular Strategic Research Initiative (SRI).

In 2019, Cambridge Cardiovascular became a Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC).

This Initiative aims to transform Cambridge into a world-leading hub for cardiovascular research and is open to all cardiovascular researchers in Cambridge area. Cambridge Cardiovascular is funded by the University of Cambridge. It is led by Prof Martin Bennett and Prof James Rudd with guidance from a Steering group spanning the Schools of Clinical Medicine, Biological Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Technology. It hosts this website and provides administrative, financial, and scientific support to its members.

Cambridge Cardiovascular acts as an umbrella organisation covering all cardiovascular and related research in Cambridge and is now administratively located in the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart and Lung Research Institute (VPD-HLRI).

Joining the Initiative is simple - just email Denise Hatherly to get started. Members are invited to create their own online research profiles and can request support e.g. to set up peer review and mock interviews for funding applications, to invite potential collaborators to visit Cambridge, to organise seminars and other events, or to advertise events and job opportunities.

Subsets of researchers are members of more focused research centres that are listed below:

For key contacts for these subsets please see our Contact Us Page.

We also work closely with clinicians at Addenbrooke's and the Royal Papworth Hospitals, and with local biotech and pharma industry.

Our research community is rapidly expanding with the re-location of Papworth Hospital and AstraZeneca global headquarters and R&D facilities to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus where we are now located.
