Group leaders in cardiovascular regenerative medicine

Medicine / Cambridge Stem Cell Institute

Positions are available for scientists to lead a programme of cardiovascular regenerative medicine within the University of Cambridge’s BHF Centre of Regenerative Medicine. The University of Cambridge will appoint the post holder to a research position at the level appropriate to the career stage of the successful applicant.

The BHF Centre of Regenerative Medicine is one of three national hubs specialising in cardiovascular regeneration. Membership of the Centre provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with researchers across the partnership (Universities of Bristol, Cambridge, Leeds, Manchester, and Oxford) and with the Imperial College- and Edinburgh-led Centres.

We seek expressions of interest from scientists who wish to pursue an internationally leading programme of research. The new programme would synergise with the current research interests of investigators in the BHF Centre of Regenerative Medicine and/or the Cambridge BHF Centre of Research Excellence, which include epicardial, vascular and platelet biology, cardiac regeneration and novel materials to support regenerative medicine. Applicants with expertise in cardiac development and disease are particularly welcome.

Funding opportunities are available for exceptional candidates, for up to 4 years with expectation that they will become competitive for external Intermediate/Senior research fellowships during this time. They will also have the opportunity to secure excellent PhD students with access to fully-funded, local PhD programmes.

The Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute is situated on the Cambridge Biomedical campus, one of the world’s most vibrant centres of biomedical research. The campus includes the University of Cambridge’s Clinical School, two major hospitals, the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Medicine, and the world headquarters of AstraZeneca. Fundraising is ongoing to build a dedicated Heart and Lung Research Institute located adjacent to the new Royal Papworth Hospital.

Expressions of interest are welcomed from scientists at stages of career equivalent to a senior research associate/lecturer/associate professor. Please direct informal enquiries to the Reader in Cardiovascular Regenerative Medicine, Dr Sanjay Sinha (ss661@cam.ac.uk), who leads the Cambridge-end of the BHF Centre of Regenerative Medicine. Interested parties should attach a brief description of their current research and future plans and a copy of their CV.

The Centre is actively seeking to increase diversity among its staff. We therefore especially encourage applications from women, from minority ethnic groups, and from those with non-standard career paths. Appointments will be made on merit. We welcome applications from those wishing to work part-time.
