Dr Seamus Harrison (Public Health and Primary Care) has been successful in obtaining an MRC Clinical Academic Research Partnerships award. The award supports his transition from a full-time NHS consultant to a clinical academic role to perform collaborative high-quality research with established leading biomedical researchers at the Clinical School.
Dr Harrison hopes to quantify the absolute risk of aortic aneurysm and dissection (AAD), stratified by age, gender and genetic risk factors using large population studies. On completion of the study, the results will be used to model the potential feasibility of stratified screening algorithm for early diagnosis.
