Research
The Toshner group applies a transdisciplinary lens to improving patient care for cardiorespiratory disease, with a particular focus on pulmonary hypertension. The group’s core experimental medicine programme utilises a technology-enabled trial design framework, collaborating closely with cutting-edge methods development in partnership with the MRC Biostatistical Unit. Through novel digital endpoints and Bayesian, adaptive methods, the group and network partners have undertaken MRC and NIHR funded trials of 6 therapies in the last 5 years. This work is informed by national multiomic longitudinal cohort studies, augmented by work in the laboratory and international patient engagement in partnership with the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute. His work has been cited in 357 international policy documents using the Overton Policy Engagement tool. This covers 37 countries internationally with 127 clinical guidance documents, 14 working papers and 2 white papers.
Professor Toshner co-leads the Cambridge Online course in Novel Clinical Trial Design in Translational Medicine.
