Cambridge Cardiovascular events:

THE BIG FUNDING PANEL

6:30pm-8:00pm on Thursday 30 March - booking needed. Hosted by Professor Giles Yeo MBE

Heart & Lung Research Institute, Papworth Road Trumpington, CB2 0BD

If you have ever raised money for medical research and would like to know more about how public and charitable funding is allocated to research projects, join Cambridge Cardiovascular researchers as a member of our ‘Big Funding Panel’. After hearing from our researchers, you will have a chance to vote on which ideas you would choose to fund and to give us constructive feedback on our proposals. There will also be a chance to chat afterwards over refreshments. Parking available.

THE HEART: A SENSATIONAL PHENOMENON!

11:00am-4:00pm on Saturday 18 March - no booking needed

Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology, Robinson Way (Close to the Junction of Robinson Way and Long Road), CB2 0SZ

Explore the fascinating world of the human heart with scientists from Cambridge Cardiovascular. Join us to play a bunch of fun games that will help you try out heart surgery on a Minion, stop ‘bad’ antibodies causing inflammation of the heart and learn how research funders make decisions about which projects to support. Plus, find out how big your heart is compared to the heart of a shrew, an elephant or a whale!

Some useful information about the heart can be found in our 2017 Science Festival booklet "How does your heart work?" that can be downloaded here. It was originally designed by Dr Aarti Shah for the 2016 festival, and re-designed by Dr Ana-Mishel Spiroski for 2017. The booklet is aimed at primary school aged children (especially years 5-6) but there are interesting facts for people of all ages.
