Dr Vanessa Pellegrinelli

My scientific expertise lies in adipose tissue biology and its pathological remodelling in obesity. Through human studies, mouse models and innovative 3D systems, I have investigated how extracellular matrix (ECM) dysfunction contributes to adipose tissue fibrosis and metabolic disease. Supported by a BHF CRE Career Development Fellowship, my research expands this expertise towards cardiovascular disease, investigating the adipose tissue matrisome as a potential link between adipose dysfunction and vascular pathology. In particular, I am interested in understanding how pathological changes in the extracellular matrix persist after weight loss and how this lasting tissue remodelling may influence cardiovascular health.
