Cambridge Cardiovascular

I am an Assistant Professor of Research in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care Unit at the University of Cambridge and British Heart Foundation Cambridge Centre for Research Excellence Career Development Fellow. My research interests lie at the intersection of health data science, human genetics, molecular biology, emergent systems, network biology. The overarching goal of my research programme is to help improve the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic diseases by identifying new molecular targets that play a causal role in disease development using large, deeply phenotyped, multi-omics cohort data and electronic health records. Doing so will help inform both future rational medicines development as well as enhance prediction tools to more precisely identify high-risk people who will benefit most from targeted intervention.

I have a proven track record in the generation of new ideas, tools, methodologies, and knowledge in diverse areas spanning biomarker discovery, risk prediction, genetic epidemiology, molecular aetiology, and target prioritization. I have played leading roles in multiple important publications that have pioneered new approaches and yielded findings of major fundamental and translational importance. I have experience in working with highly collaborative and interdisciplinary groups and routinely lead and contribute to multi-institution collaborations. I have particular expertise in working with multi-modal and biobank-scale cohorts to derive deep and novel biological insights into the molecular aetiology of disease, particularly from proteomics data.

If you are interested in working with me please get in touch! I am actively involved in recruiting PhD and MPhil students and postdoctoral researchers both for my own team and for the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, and am an enthusiastic and active collaborator with a wide variety of interdisciplinary research teams around the world.
