Learn from the horrors that sent chills down researchers' spines!
To celebrate Data Horror Week 2025, we will be learning about real-life data horror stories from researchers at Cambridge. Our colleagues from the Research Data team will describe how these were handled and how they could be prevented in future.
On Thursday 30 October 10:00-12:00 there will be two in-person sessions at the Clinical School building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus:
- A Data Champion will present horror stories from their data partnerships and discuss tactics for avoiding them in future. The Research Data team and CAM:IDE (who provide research data management, RDM, solutions at the University for sensitive data) will present some research data horror stories they have collated and suggest how these could be prevented.
- There will be bookable drop-in sessions where people can bring their own data problems and get help and advice on how to resolve them, e.g. storing and backing up data, collaborating securely, protecting sensitive data, travelling or data security.
In addition, there will be a Data Horror Week themed display in the Clinical School building on the day, 09:30-14:00, where people can talk with research data experts about their research data management needs. There will be guidance materials available to take away as well as some Halloween treats!
The fantastic Medical Library (on the first floor of the building) will have a book (and e-book) display with an RDM theme for that week.
The event is suitable for all research staff and students, and anyone supporting researchers with their data, from any discipline.
