The Schools of Biological Sciences and Clinical Medicine have created a joint research grants scheme with the Isaac Newton Trust aimed at recently appointed lecturers in the two Schools.

The objective of the scheme is to provide small research grants to new lecturers to develop projects leading to a full application for external funding.

This scheme is open to University Lecturers in Schools of Biological Sciences and Clinical Medicine. Applicants should have been appointed between 1st October 2012 and 31st January 2015.

Awards will be made for up to two years and may include direct costs to a maximum of £80,000. Awards can be used to fund postdoctoral research associate, equipment and consumables. PI time, student fees and travel are not eligible costs. Host department is expected to provide 1/3 of the project cost.

Application should include: CV (2 pages) a research proposal (2 pages), a statement (1/2 page) on how the proposed project aligns with the University's strategy for biological and biomedical sciences, information on funding the applicant has received so far (1 page), and a statement of support from the Head of the Deparment. No X5 is expected at the application stage but will be requested at the award stage.
