Agnieszka Jakubowska

Dr Agnieszka (Aggie) Jakubowska is a Specialist Registrar in Metabolic Medicine and Chemical Pathology in the East of England. She studied Medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she also obtained a First Class BSc degree in Experimental Pathology. She completed her Foundation and Internal Medicine Training in London and has obtained both the MRCP(UK) and FRCPath qualifications.

She is currently undertaking a PhD in Clinical Biochemistry in the group of Professor Sir Stephen O’Rahilly at the University of Cambridge, funded by a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship. Her research investigates how inherited defects in the extracellular matrix of adipose tissue contribute to lipodystrophy, insulin resistance and cardiometabolic disease. The project combines deep clinical phenotyping of individuals with vascular Ehlers–Danlos syndrome with human genetics and functional adipose tissue models to better understand the role of extracellular matrix dysfunction in metabolic disease.
