Research Interests

My research focuses on evaluating the roles of environmental (foods and toxic metals), blood-based (vitamin D, bone minerals and fatty acids), and associated genetic factors that may influence the risk of cardiovascular disease in various ethnic groups.

I have an interest in global health involving low and middle income regions (such as South Asia) and aim to set up large-scale collaborative epidemiologic and intervention studies. Currently I lead two pioneering collaborative research projects in Bangladesh: The Bangladesh Risk of Acute Vascular Events (BRAVE, a 10k participant case-control study) and The BangladEsh Longitudinal Investigation of Emerging Vascular Events (BELIEVE, a more recent 25k prospective cohort study).
