Research Interests

Jason Tarkin is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Career Development Fellow and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Cambridge, and the National Heart & Lung Institute at Hammersmith Hospital. Previously, he was a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research PhD Fellow at the University of Cambridge, and a Cardiology trainee at the Barts Heart Centre in London. He graduated with Distinction in Medicine from St. George's, University of London in 2008, and was awarded summa cum laude with honors in Biology from the University of New Hampshire in 2003.

Jason's PhD thesis evaluated novel methods for quantifying vascular inflammation in atherosclerosis using non-invasive imaging. For this research, he won both the American Heart Association Melvin Judkin’s Young Investigator Award in 2016 and the American College of Cardiology William W. Parmley Young Author Achievement Award in 2018.

His current research programme aims to examine potential clinical translational applications of somatostatin receptor subtype-2 PET/MRI as a marker of inflammation for studying disease mechanisms, use in drug discovery and guiding novel therapies in high-risk patients with cardiovascular disease and large vessel vasculitis.
