Vascular Medicine:

Research Interests

Jason Tarkin is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Career Development Fellow and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Cambridge, and the National Heart & Lung Institute at Hammersmith Hospital. Previously, he was a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research PhD Fellow at the University of Cambridge, and a Cardiology trainee at the Barts Heart Centre in London. He graduated with Distinction in Medicine from St. George's, University of London in 2008, and was awarded summa cum laude with honors in Biology from the University of New Hampshire in 2003.

Jason's PhD thesis evaluated novel methods for quantifying vascular inflammation in atherosclerosis using non-invasive imaging, with specific focus on somatostatin receptor positron emission tomography. His current research programme aims to examine potential clinical translational applications of this method for use in drug discovery, guiding novel therapies in high-risk patients with cardiovascular disease, and in other vascular inflammatory diseases.
